We all want our dollars to stretch as far as they can go, so it's nice when we find a product or service that allows us to get the most out of what we pay for it. That even applies to vacationing. Whether you're thinking about visiting the Great Smoky Mountains this spring or even this summer or fall, it's not too early to start planning your trip. It's always a good idea to make lodging reservations well in advance, and if you have to arrange for a rental car or alternative transportation while you're here, it's probably a good idea to get going on that as well.
We'll be the first to admit that Goats on the Roof is an unconventional name for a tourist attraction. One of the most frequent questions we get from our guests is a simple one: “Why? Why are there goats on your roof?” Of course, there's a story behind the name and the concept. It's not an idea that we just plucked out of thin air.
February has arrived, and for many, it's just another month to slog through until we get closer to the arrival of spring. It's the off season in the Great Smoky Mountains, so there's not much point in heading that way until it warms up, right?
Pigeon Forge has long been known for its music theaters. Much like Branson, MO, the city boasts a thriving community of venues that play host to a wide variety of live shows featuring everything from multiple genres of music to comedy, magic, feats of competition and much more.

Whether it's a keepsake you're purchasing as a way to remember a trip or a gift you're taking home to friends and family members who got left behind, souvenirs are always tangible evidence of a remarkable traveling experiences.
We have to admit that Goats on the Roof is an unusual attraction. There's only one other place in the country that has live goats living on its roof, and that's the original GOTR in Wisconsin. We're pretty proud of that. There's something to be said for being unique.
If you had driven through Pigeon Forge 50 years ago, you probably wouldn't have envisioned what that small town on the way to Gatlinburg would evolve into over the next five decades. Few cities experience that type of growth, but thanks to the tourism industry, Pigeon Forge (like Gatlinburg and Sevierville) has seen an incredible level of expansion.
In our last post a couple of weeks back, we gave you a 30,000-foot overview of how Pigeon Forge will be celebrating Winterfest this season. All of us at Goats on the Roof are already in the swing of things, enjoying all the Winterfest lights, special holiday events and everything else that makes winter in the Great Smoky Mountains such a special time of year.
There's no doubt that enjoying recreational opportunities in Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a top priority among visitors to this neck of the woods. Hiking, bike riding, picnicking, fishing and camping are just a few of the fun outdoor activities that millions of visitors enjoy inside the park each year.
If you've ever driven to Pigeon Forge and/or Gatlinburg on a Smoky Mountain vacation, chances are you first drove through Sevierville, Tennessee, on your journey. Decades ago, Sevierville was little more than a place to stop to get gas or a bite to eat on your way to one of the other destinations. But these days, Sevierville has more to offer tourists than ever before. And if you haven't taken a look at that city's downtown area lately, you'll see why Sevierville has become a worthy place to stop and play in its own right.
You have to admit it: Goats On The Roof is a catchy name for a tourist attraction. And for the past 10 years, we've answered a lot of questions about that name and how it came to be. Regardless of the origins, we're proud to say that we actually DO have live goats on our roof. What you see is what you get. But if you want to know more about WHY they're up there in the first place, then we'll share that backstory with you in this post.
In the decade that we've been in the Smokies of East Tennessee, all of us at Goats On The Roof have prided ourselves on offering visitors a unique mountain experience. And we've tried to offer entertainment that fits in with our natural surroundings. For example, our resident goats are alpine creatures that are comfortable in high altitudes and on steep slopes.
If you've ever taken the scenic drive from Pigeon Forge to Wears Valley (or vice versa), you may have noticed something a little unusual just off Wears Valley Road. In fact, you may have seen live goats hanging out on the roof of one particular roadside business. If that's the case, don't worry; you weren't seeing things. That's just a typical day here at our unique Pigeon Forge attraction called, appropriately enough, Goats On The Roof of the Smokies.
