Pigeon Forge has long been known for its music theaters. Much like Branson, MO, the city boasts a thriving community of venues that play host to a wide variety of live shows featuring everything from multiple genres of music to comedy, magic, feats of competition and much more.
This time of year, however, most of those theaters shift gears a little bit and bring holiday-themed shows to their stages. In most cases, the essence of each show stays the same, but it generally takes on production elements that reflect the spirit of the holiday season, from music and costumes to settings and special characters.
If that sounds like a fun way to spend an afternoon or evening in the Smokies with your family, continue reading for some thumbnail descriptions of what's in store at just a few of the Pigeon Forge music theaters this Winterfest. A live show would be the ideal complement to a seasonal weekend getaway that includes a visit to Goats on the Roof.
We suggest spending an afternoon visiting with our live goats, riding our alpine coaster and playing some dino-themed mini golf. Then after a delicious dinner at a Pigeon Forge restaurant, you can head to the theater for an evening of entertainment.
Dolly Parton's Stampede – This show always features the talents of skilled riders on horseback, but the entire production changes for November and December. Instead of the usual north-south rivalry, the show is staged around a North Pole-South Pole rivalry, and the cast of riders and horses compete for bragging rights. But seasonal elements like the Sugar Plum Fairy, live nativity scene and an appearance by Santa Claus make Dolly's Stampede a magical place for the holidays. And don't forget about their famous four-course meal including homemade biscuits, a whole rotisserie chicken, smoked pork loin and their famous creamy vegetable soup.
Christmas at Array – Array is one of the newer theaters in town, and as its name suggests, it typically offers a wide array of entertainment programming. This time of year, however, the two-hour production takes on lots of festive lights and holiday costuming as the cast of world-class vocalists, yuletide dancers and talented musicians perform both classic Christmas tunes and new holiday favorites.
Illusionation Christmas Show – This magic-themed show takes place at Mountain of Entertainment Theater, which is located on the Parkway in Pigeon Forge. Master magician Jason Hudy conjures up some holly-jolly fun that's designed to get all ages into the holiday spirit. The show features Christmas magic, special effects and audience participation.
Christmas at the Comedy Barn – The laughs are always flowing at this long-time comedy venue on the Parkway, but this time of year, things get really merry. All the music is tied into the Christmas holiday, and there are seasonal costumes and specialty acts to enjoy as well. But along the way, you'll still experience Comedy Barn's lineup of funny and entertaining performers, including the Comedy Barn Canines, the Comedy Barn Cloggers, stand-up comics and more. All the while, this comedy hall is decked with boughs of garland, lights and snow.
Paula Deen's Lumberjack Feud Christmas Show – Most of the year, this show is all about lumberjack athletes competing against each other for bragging rights. But through the end of the year, audiences will see the stage decorated for the holidays and hear original tunes of the season inspired by folklore of the forest. They've also added a holiday twist to their dozen-plus sporting competitions, which include speed climbing, sawing, log rolling and more. Meanwhile, sink into the season as you sip on some hot chocolate and cheer on your favorite lumberjack family as they compete to see which one will spend Christmas at Santa's favorite logging camp in the Smokies.
