Nestled in the heart of the Smoky Mountains, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Tennessee, are well-known for their natural beauty, thrilling attractions, and charming mountain towns. But did you know these two destinations are also a haven for sweet tooths and dessert lovers? From melt-in-your-mouth fudge to nostalgic taffy and gooey cinnamon rolls, there are plenty of sugary delights that make this region a must-visit for anyone with a craving for something sweet.
Let's face it… Sometimes traffic in the Smokies can get congested, especially in the middle of summer. Anyone who's ever hit the town on a Saturday, especially on a holiday weekend or during a big local event, knows the experience of sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
February has arrived, and for many, it's just another month to slog through until we get closer to the arrival of spring. It's the off season in the Great Smoky Mountains, so there's not much point in heading that way until it warms up, right?
Pigeon Forge has long been known for its music theaters. Much like Branson, MO, the city boasts a thriving community of venues that play host to a wide variety of live shows featuring everything from multiple genres of music to comedy, magic, feats of competition and much more.
In our most recent blog post, we introduced you to a number of Smoky Mountain venues where live music performances are either the main focus or they play a vital role in the day-to-day offerings. Destinations like Hard Rock Café, The Listening Room Café, Ober Mountain, The Island and Anakeesta all feature shows where you can catch up-and-coming artists and songwriters live and in person.
It's an unwritten law of vacationing: When you take a trip, you have to buy souvenirs. Well, you don't HAVE to, but it's kind of a thing that people do. Whether it's a keepsake you're purchasing as a way to remember a trip or a gift you're taking home to friends and family members who got left behind, souvenirs are always tangible evidence of a remarkable traveling experiences.
We have to admit that Goats on the Roof is an unusual attraction. There's only one other place in the country that has live goats living on its roof, and that's the original GOTR in Wisconsin. We're pretty proud of that. There's something to be said for being unique.
It's finally March. Even though spring doesn't officially arrive for a few more weeks, and even though we'll probably experience a few more chilly days in the Smokies, there's something about having January and February in the rear-view mirror that gives everyone hope that winter is on its way out and the warm, sunny days of spring and summer are just around the corner.
If you had driven through Pigeon Forge 50 years ago, you probably wouldn't have envisioned what that small town on the way to Gatlinburg would evolve into over the next five decades. Few cities experience that type of growth, but thanks to the tourism industry, Pigeon Forge (like Gatlinburg and Sevierville) has seen an incredible level of expansion.
Most folks on vacation probably aren't intrigued by the thought of doing a triathlon. But we think we might have come up with one that might just grab your interest, especially since it doesn't actually involve swimming, bicycling or running. Not that those things can't be fun (and beneficial), but if you're planning some getaway time in the Great Smoky Mountains in the near future, our triathlon requires no training and very little physical effort. Best of all, it lets you the participant enjoy lots of high-speed fun over the course of one great day in the Smokies.
So you had a great day in the Smokies. Maybe you spent it hiking in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Or maybe you hung out all day at Dollywood or Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies. Maybe you went ziplining or visited that cool place where the goats walk around on the rooftop…
