When we started digging into our last blog post - which was an overview of new attractions, restaurants, shops and lodgings in the Smokies - we had no idea that we were opening up a whole can of vacation-themed worms. There was way more to bite off than we could chew in one blog post (not that we're into eating worms…), so we're back this week to wrap things up and let a few more of those wiggly critters out to play.
The Gatlinburg theme park has a new attraction, an aviary-themed area where guests can play in three giant birdhouses (each with interactive elements) and seven large serpentine slides. It's now open and ready for flight.
If you think you might be interested in a cool place to stay when visiting the Smokies, you could try this retro-themed boutique hotel, located across from The Island in Pigeon Forge. The property features a taco truck, a swimming pool and a poolside cantina called Paloma, which offers a fusion of fresh and modern cuisine and beverages.
This is the second and newest Dollywood lodging property. It features 302 rooms that include family suites, bunk rooms, themed suites and loft rooms. Of course, one of its greatest assets is proximity to Dollywood theme park and Dollywood's Splash Country. Transportation between HeartSong and the theme parks is available.
Located in Sevierville near the Tanger Outlet Center, Xperia uses the latest in digital media, animation and audio technology to create memorable experiences that allow guests to discover the universe in brand-new ways. At this location, it's an all-digital, sensory adventure through the ocean, allowing guests to explore at their own pace. It's an immerse underwater experience that's not to be missed.
There's something new at Dollywood every season, and this year is no exception. Opening May 24, this new attraction features interactive elements designed to make guests feel as if they are right there with Dolly as she journeys from Locust Ridge, TN, to the entertainment stages of the world. The Dolly Paton Experience occupies multiple buildings, with exhibits that span her iconic career.
Behold, an attraction devoted to the beloved crayon… This one isn't slated to open until this fall, but when it does, the 30,000-square-foot entertainment center will offer the world's largest selection of Crayola products, more than 20 hands-on attractions and lots of unique and creative experiences for families. Located in the former Smoky Mountain Opry building (originally the Louise Mandrell Theater for you old-timers), the attraction will share that building with NERF Action-Xperience. Presented by toymaker Hasbro, it will be a 25,000-square-foot space full of sports challenges, battle zones, an obstacle course and more.
We know what you're thinking: “Hey, this isn't a new attraction!” You're right; it's not. Flyaway has been offering indoor skydiving in the Smokies for decades. But the Pigeon Forge attraction will soon be moving into its new 50,000-square-foot facility on Teaster Lane. It will now offer two separate wind tunnels as well as a gym, an onsite lodging for camps and courses, and much more.
This popular Sevierville resort has multiple water parks, which have recently undergone quite a bit of expansion since last year. The 40,000-square-foot additions include a three-story water coaster, a new lazy river, a rooftop pool, and a bar and grill.
While you're checking out all these fun new things, don't forget about us attractions that Pigeon Forge visitors already love. That includes Goats on the Roof! No other place in town has live goats for guests to visit and interact with. And while you're here, stick around for some gem mining. Or a fast-and-fun mountain coaster. Or dino-themed mini golf. We have a little bit of everything for everyone in the family!
